Search "dorner" on Google right now and here's what you'll get: a page for someone named Jane Dorner (a writer, I think, or maybe an editor — I didn't get far enough to confirm), a LinkedIn profile for a Robert Dorner whose work history blurs into logistics, a Reddit thread titled "why is henry not playing" (a different Henry, unless someone benched mine), and at least one article about the digital divide in manufacturing.

None of those pages will help you buy a conveyor.

I know because that exact search started the most expensive mistake of my career.

I'm a manufacturing engineer. I've been handling conveyor system selection for eight years, mostly on food and packaging lines. I've personally made (and documented) 19 significant specification mistakes, totaling roughly $87,000 in wasted budget. This one was the worst.

The Real Problem: Search Results Aren't Specifications

It's tempting to think the hard part of specifying industrial equipment is the engineering. It's not. The hard part is making sure the information in front of you is true.

Google doesn't verify distributors. It doesn't check revision dates on PDFs. All it knows is that that page has been crawled, indexed, and ranked. It doesn't know that Dorner updated the belt interface on the 2200 Series, making the cached 2019 PDF on that distributor's site quietly, invisibly wrong.

Why did I trust it? Because it was a PDF with a logo, and PDFs with logos have an automatic credibility we almost never challenge.
